CosmoTassone, la nonna Elisabetta (la Vazzanota), Luigi Tassone, Consolata Monardo con la figlioletta Elisabetta Tassone negli anni cinquanta mentre aspettano la processione della Madonna della Consolazione vicino alla porta della loro casa in via Annunziata per fare la loro offerta annuale di denaro.

 Cosmo His nonna Elisabetta, his brother Luigi, his sister Elisabetta being held by their mother Consolata. This was outside their house in Via Annunziata awaiting the procession of Our Lady of Consolations to go past their house so that they could bestow upon her what they could afford in money for that year.

Mentre passa la Madonna della Consolazione per le vie del paese, Bruno Valente "La Ditta" (di soprannome) nel modo piu` tradizionale di quei tempi fa la sua offerta dal balcone assiem a tre dei suoi nipotini: Nicola, Bruno e Consolata Papa. Alla porta di sotto del  balcone, la figlia Rosina (di la Pirra).

During the procession of Our Lady of Consolation, Bruno Valente, nicknamed  "La Ditta"  together with three of  his grandchildren (Nicola, Bruno e Consolata Papa) making  their offering of money from his balcony  in the most traditional way of the time. At the door under the balcony his daughter Rosina.

 Bruno Valente "La Ditta", in quegli anni, era gia` un signore anziano e me lo ricordo come persona  docile e gentile e sempre vestito in modo elegante. Lui assieme a Nicola Arena (Colieju) era reduce della 1a Guerra Mondiale. Spesso e volentieri ci raccontavano le loro gesta ed i loro episodi.  Non c`era  festa a Brognaturo senza che tradizionalmente uno dei due con tanto di bandiera tricolore ci guidassero al monumento al suono della marcia militare "IL Piave" . Li` si visitano i loro compagni di cui oramai restava soltanto un nome e qualche foto qua` e la`. Ricordo l' uno (La Ditta) con  la giacchetta della sua vecchia uniforme  ed il cappello  con su le medaglie ricevute, l`altro (Nicola Arena) si accontentava di apppuntarsi  le sue medaglie sulla sua semplice giacca . Al monumento, "La Ditta e Nicola" scattavano e rimanevano sugli attenti mentre si  rievocavano le gesta di questi eroi. Spesso e volentieri si vedevano  dei volti bagnati da qualche lacrima. Si notava qualche lacrima anche sulle facce di questi due superstiti ed era chiaro dove era diretto il loro pensiero in quei momenti.

Bruno Valente, nicknamed "La Ditta", at that time was a gentle older man always nicely dressed and polite.  He was a 1st World War veteran together with Nicola Arena (Colieju). They allways told us stories and personal happenings of the 1st World War. In Brognaturo there could be no celebration  if we would'nt go to the Monument to pay tribute to their friends who never came back. The first with his jacket  from the old uniform  and his medals hanging from his old uniform hut, the other had his medals hanging from his civilian jacket.   We would accompany them at the Monument with the marching band of the day playing the traditional song "IL Piave" (the Piave is a river where theItalian Army was able to stop the enemy at the end of the 1st Worl War). Once there they would  stand into attention for the entire ceremony.  It was not rare for us  to see tears coming down on peoples faces. Even those two heroes had tears on their eyes and it was very clear to us were their mind was in those moments .

The War against Austria- Ungheria under the King Duce Supreme and  The Italian Army, inferior to them for numbers and equipment, that began on May 24, 1915 and it was fought with faith and strong will  for 41 months is won. 
The remainder of what once was the strongest army in the world are leaving our valleys in a disorderly manner and without hope. They came down those same valleys very sure of them selves. 

Lets never forget these heroes who fought for our freedom .

Gli emigranti brognaturesi, anche se in questo caso, Domenico Chiera e` originario di Cardinale, hanno sempre fatto i mestieri piu` svariati. Il lavoro e` stato sempre il movente che ha spinto la gente a muoversi ed ad andare altrove per poter provvedere a se stessi ed alle loro famiglie che in casi come questo, di emigrazione stagionale, i lavoratori svolgevano i loro compiti con grande passione pensando che alla fine del mese sarebbero stati  pagati ed avevano abbastanza da mandare alle loro famiglie rimaste al villaggio e qualcosa restava anche a loro per poter arrivare fino alla prossima busta paga. In questa bellissima foto degli anni sessanta, lo vediamo orgogliasamente  posare in compagnia molto probabilmente dei figli del suo datore di lavoro mentre svolge il suo compito di accudire una mandria di Mucche forse in Svizzera o forse in Francia (a questo punto non si sa` di preciso). 

Brognaturesi emigrants, although  in this case, Domenic Chiera is originally from Cardinale (N.D.T.a small village not to far from Brognaturo)  have always worked at all kind of jobs. Work has always been the power that pushed people to move and go elsewhere where they were able to provide for themselves and their families. In this case of seasonal emigration where the men used to leave behind their families at the village and go away to carry out their jobs with great passion knowing that at the end of the month they would get rewarded with their paycheck and they would have enough money to send back home and keep some for themselves to reach the end of the  next pay period.
 In this beautiful photo of the years sixties, we see Domenic proudly posing in company of probably the children of his employer while taking care of a herd of Cows in Switzerland or perhaps in France (at this point we don't know exactly).
