Antonio (Tony) Monardo left Brognaturo in 1954 and Emigrated to Australia.
Elvira Tassone, Cosmo Tassone's wife, recount the story of their uncle Antonio Monardo

About zio Antonio. He was born  1st May 1913 
in Brognaturo. He was sponsored by his cousin from Vazzano. Zio Antonio then sponsored Bruno  and then Pasquale and then Luigi and then Cosmo. Bruno stayed for 4 years then he returned to Brognaturo in about 1972. Pasquale went on to marry Rosa   and Luigi went on to marry Renata. Cosmo married Elvira.  Zio Antonio was divorced before he left for Australia in  1954. He lived with his cousin at first in Ryde a suburb of Sydney . He then lived in rented quarters and worked in a tanning factory until he retired. He could not live in the same rented quarters and then moved in with his nephew Cosmo  at Luigis house (there was a flat in his backyard). He stayed there for 2 years then  moved in with Cosmo and family when the flat had to be demolished. He lived  in Cosmos house for 11 years then went into a nursing home for 1 year after having been nursed in Cosmos home for 4 years. Zio Antonio had Alzeimers disease. Zio Antonio was a wonderful man to his widowed sister Consolata (my mother in law). He didnt buy a property for himself to live in , instead made a life for his nephews in Australia and sent money to his sister to bring up her family. He never remarried as he stayed faithful to his faith. Uncle Tony was looked after  by  Cosmo and me until we had to unfortunately put him into a nursing home the last year of his life. He passed away on 20 April 1988.

A proposito di zio Antonio. Era nato l’1 maggio 1913 a Brognaturo. Nel 1954, dopo un breve matrimonio non a lieto fine, parti` per l`Australia con un atto di atto di richiamo fattogli da un suo cugino da Vazzano. Una volta la`, Zio Antonio fa` l`atto di richiamo a Pasquale, Bruno e poi a Luigi e Cosmo. Bruno rimase per 4 anni e poi nel 1972 circa ritornò a Brognaturo. Con l’andare del tempo Pasquale  sposa Rosa , Luigi  sposa Renata e Cosmo sposa Elvira. In un primo momento zio Antonio e` andato ad abitare con suo cugino in Ryde,  un sobborgo di Sydney. Poi ha vissuto in appartamenti presi in affitto e ha  lavorato in una conceria di pelli fino a che non va in pensione. Ad un certo punto non potendo piu` vivere nell`appartamento da lui affittato andò a vivere con suo nipote Cosmo a casa di Luigi ( Luigi aveva un appartmento nel cortile di dietro la sua casa). Rimase lì per 2 anni e poi, quando l`appartamento doveva essere demolito,  si trasferì a casa di Cosmo che nel frattempo si era sposato ed aveva messo su famiglia. Ha vissuto in casa di Cosmo per 11 anni di cui 4 ha avuto bisogno di essere curato. Poi è stato trasferito in una casa di cura dove visse ancora per 1 anno. Era ammalato di Alzheimer.
Zio Antonio e` stato un uomo meraviglioso nei confronti della sorella Consolata (mia suocera) rimasta vedova. Egli non ha acquistato dei beni immobili per sé in cui vivere, invece ha spianato la strada ai propri nipoti in Australia e ha mandato denaro alla sorella perche` potesse portare avanti la famiglia. Egli, restando fedele alla sua fede non si risposò mai. Lo zio Tony è stato curato da me e Cosmo fino a quando abbiamo dovuto, purtroppo, metterlo in una casa di cura l'ultimo anno della sua vita. Si spense il 20 aprile 1988.
