La vecchia "Fontana Vecchia", oramai in uno stato di abbandono totale,  ci fa ritornare un po` indietro nel tempo. Infatti qui una volta si intravedevano le donne che, nel freddo invernale di gennaio,lavavano e preparavano le budella dei maiali appena macellati per poi fare le salsicce, e insaccati vari. Non si puo` dimenticare il professor Vittorio Mangiardi che lava e mantiene in uno stato da showroom la sua  "Mini Minor" verde e come lui tanti altri paesani.  Non si puo` dimenticare Bruno di Maravigghjia che con la sua "ciuccia" caricata con due barili di legno e uno dei suoi nipoti al suo seguito(Cosmo, Vito o Bruno), andava su e giu` per la scala finche` i barili erano pieni d`acqua per poi portarsela alla sua casa di campagna di fianco al camposanto. Non si puo` dimenticare neanche che, proprio di fianco la fontana vecchia che aveva il muro tutt`intorno alto un metro e piu` , c`e` il piccolo "vejuni" dove Cuncetta di Cucciuni aveva fatto una piccola "Gurna" in cui metteva sempre due sacchi di "Luppini" per farli raddolcire dall`acqua corrente per poi portarli a piedi,un sacco alla volta sulla sua testa, fino a Serra S. Bruno per venderli. Nella stessa "Gurna" tanti di quelli che avevano i vecchi forni a legna come Turi di Micarolu, Rosa di Maravigghjia, La Petrunega, Peppina di Zanna e tanti altri, lavavano "Lu Capiju " per pulire le ceneri nei forni prima di infornare il pane. Tempi andati ma non da dimenticare.

The old “Fontana Vecchia”, which is now in a state of total abandonment, has allowed us to go back in time. 

 As a matter of fact, some time back, one was able to see women; in the cold winter month of January washing and preparing pig guts, of freshly slaughtered pigs, to make sausages and other types of salami.  We can not forget Professor Vittorio Mangiardi who parked his “Green Mini Minor” (a type of car) near the “Fontana Vecchia” and washed and maintained it in grand showroom style, along with other town’s people who followed the same practice.  We can not forget Bruno Tucci (di Maravgghija) with his donkey loaded with two wooden barrels and one of his grandsons (Cosmo, Vito or Bruno) whom he had trained to go up and down the stairs of the “Fontana Vecchia” to get water until the barrels were full.  He would then take the water to his farm house located next to the cemetery.  One can not fail to remember that that the “Fontana Vecchia” had a wall around it that was a meter of so high, and right next to it was a small creek where Concetta (di Cucciuni) had built a small dam in which she always placed two sacks of “Luppini”.  The “Luppini” were sweeten in time by the running water, and once sweetened she would carry one sack at a time on her head until she reached Serra San Bruno (a town about 3 km away) were she would sell them at the market to people who went to the market.   In the same ditch many of the individuals (like Turi di Micarolu. Rosa di Maravigghiia, Caterina Mangiardi known as the Petrunega, Peppina di Zanna e many others washed a piece of cloth that was used to clean the ashes in their wood burning ovens prior to baking bread.  These are times of the past that should never be forgotten.
